Utah passes porn filter requirement bill HB72

A measure that requires all smartphones and tablets to automatically block sexually explicit content has been passed by the Utah Legislature and signed into law by that State’s Governor Spencer Cox. Meanwhile, the creator of a believes that the legislation underscores parent’s concerns about their children’s activities online.

Sponsored in the Utah House of Representatives by Rep. Susan Pulsipher (R-Jordan) and in the State Senate by Sen. Wayne A. Harper (R-Taylorsville City), HB 72 requires any tablet or smartphone sold in the state and manufactured after January 1 of the year the measure becomes effective, to automatically enable a filter capable of blocking material that is harmful to minors before the device can be activated. It also requires the filter to notify the user whenever the content is blocked.

While Cox signed HB 72 into law on March 23, the legislation does not become effective until five other states introduce, pass and sign into law identical legislation.

Even so, Barry Bucciarelli, chief operations officer (COO) for iBucci Corp., developers of the premier Android App: Child Online Parental Control App – MoVi Free, believes that the legislation proves the importance of parents’ needs to protect their children from predators and other dangers online.
